Structural Assessment, Renovation, and Hazard Mitigation of an Existent Structure
AXIOLIS was commissioned to conduct a complete project management mission in the context of difficulties impacting the hazardous building at 21 Rue Martinot in Aubagne. This mission began with an emergency stabilization phase for the building, as required by the danger order. Following that, AXIOLIS performed a full diagnostic to determine the extent of the difficulties.
The structure has a ground level and four more stories. Rafters and wooden beams parallel to the facades support the floors and roofs, which are carried by load-bearing walls into which they penetrate by about a third, or even half, of the wall thickness. Neither the front nor the back facades are load-bearing. The neighboring buildings are not technically independent; the load-bearing wall between them is solitary and supports both buildings’ floors.
The detected faults mostly involve the timber floors, which have sectionedoff beams and severely degraded supporting components. Aside from that, the neighboring wall was swollen.
